involved, the number of
members, the age range of
clients, etc.
Video dating: This service
is growing in popularity, and
it uses the latest in video
technology. The advantage is
that a person can see and
hear a person before they ar-
range the date.
Personal introductions: A
more traditional way to meet
other singles is through per-
sonal introductions by a
friend or relative. It is impor-
tant to rely on someone you
trust who knows your tastes.
An introduction can be made
face to face or by phoning the
other person (more common-
ly known as a blind date).
This can be a good way to
meet others, as long as your
expectations are not too high.
That way, if the date works
out, great! If not, you at least
spent a few hours meeting an
interesting person. That per-
son might even introduce you
to his or her friends.
Personal ads: Placing a per-
sonal ad in the classified sec-
tion of a newspaper or
magazine is becoming an ac-
ceptable way to meet other
singles. This can be an en-
joyable experience, as long as
the proper precautions are
taken. Advertise in a
newspaper or magazine that
is respectable and that will be
read by the kind of peple you
want to meet.
The more specific you are in
the ad you create, the bettet
chance you will have of
meeting people similar to
you. When you meet a person
for the first time, be sure to
arrange the meeting in a
public place, such as a
restaurant or a club. You can
never be sure about the kind
of person you are talking to
until you actually get
together.
Private parties: With the
right combination of people,
food, and theme, a private
party can be a good way to
meet other singles. People
usually get invited to a
private party through a
printed or verbal invitation,
either directly from the host
or through a friend who has
been invited and asked to
bring others. Most parties are
small enough for the host to
introduce guests to one
another. Dinner and pot luck
buffets are good variations on
the cocktail party theme.
Although these are some of
the most common ways for
singles to meet compatible
people, use your imagination
and everyday experiences to
discover other ways to meet
singles. No matter what
methods you use to meet
others, the main thing is to be
willing to develop the

Mixed Marriage
`Compassion'
Is Urged

New York (JTA) — The United
Synagogue of America, the con-
gregational organization of
Conservative Judaism, last
week called for compassionate
policy toward non-Jewish
spouses in mixed marriages out
of principle and as a response
to the Reform movement's
adoption of patrilineal descent
as valid proof of Jewish identity.
The position was stated in a
resolution approved at the
quarterly International Board
Meeting of the United Syna-
gogue here. It urged "the arms
of the Conservative Movement
to adopt an aggressive, active
and compassionate conversion
policy directed toward non-
Jewish spouses, to be im-
plemented and executed on a
regional and local level, and
that an accompanying outreach
program be simultaneously in-
itiated within the bounds of
Conservative halacha, to deal
with the mixed marriage
issue."
