fected all government offices
and agencies and local
authorities, including the
postal services and telephone
exchanges, the public was not
entirely inconvenienced. Bus
and taxi services were nor-
mal. Electricity and water
supplies were not affected by
the strike nor were health
care institutions for the most

Protestants Hit
Papal Meeting

Philadelphia — A group of
Protestant leaders released
the following statement in
response to the papal invita-
tion to Kurt Waldheim:
"The papal invitation to
Kurt Waldheim is primarily a
Roman Catholic problem.
However, as Protestants, we
want to make our distress
known. The invitation
disgraces the memory of
Christian martyrs who oppos-
ed Nazi idolatry. The invita-
tion dishonors the memory of
the victims of the Nazi
Holocaust. The wounds of the
Lord's people cannot be heal-
ed so lightly. (Jeremiah 6:14)
