Ampal Representative

HEIDI PRESS

News Editor

Albert Schonwetter of Oak
Park has been named a
registered representative to
market Ampal-American
Israel Corp.'s securities in
Michigan.
An economist, Schonwetter
is president and CEO of
NASCO Products Co., a posi-
tion he has held since 1964.
According to Schonwetter,
he will be responsible for in-
forming "the community
about the availability of Am-
pal debentures and the work
that Ampal has done in Israel
for its invesstors over a period
of 45 years."
Ampal securities are used
for Israel's economic develop-
ment, both in the public and
private sectors. "There isn't
one area of the economy of
Israel that Ampal has not in-
vested in," Schonwetter said,
listing agriculture, medical
technology, transportation
systems and tourism among
the many areas supported by
Ampal.
Schonwetter said the hot-
test issues currently available
from Ampal are its Variable
Interest Rate issue, which
pays 1 percent interest above
the current prime rate, and
the 91/2 percent interest rate
issue which is paid on in-
vestments of $10,000 to
$100,000.
Schonwetter came across
the Ampal appointment by
chance. An investor, he look-
ed into an Ampal product and
liked what he saw. In resear-
ching the product, he found
that "it went along with my

own sentiments about Israel,"
that is, aiming at strengthen-
ing Israel's economy. After
having made several in-
vestments, he was asked to
become a company represen-
tative. He took up the call,
passed the exams and was
appointed.
Prior to Schonwetter's ap-
pointment, an Ampal
representative visited
Michigan only once a year.
Now, Schonwetter said, he
"can serve the community on
a constant basis."

Endowment

periences for Families
(J.E.F.F.) project.
This fund will sponsor
scholars-in-residence, Jewish .
cultural arts experiences
through the use of profes-
sional performers, Jewish
educational displays, and will
provide for the purchase of
ancillary equipment that will
improve program
implementation.
Dr. Jacobson is currently a
major gifts chairman with the
Jewish Welfare Federation.

Nancy Jacobson now serves
on the executive committee of
the Fresh Air Society.
