Libyan Jews
Recall Exile

New York (JTA) — More
than 300 Jews of Libyan ori-
gin met at a two-day conven-
tion in New York this month
to remind the world of the
"forgotten refugee problem"
in the Middle East — the
nearly one million Jews
forced to flee Arab countries,
including 40,000 from Libya.
It marked the 20th an-
niversary of the forced depar-
ture from Libya of the coun-
try's 5,000 remaining Jews in
the wake of the 1967 Six-Day
War, ending a 2,000-year
Jewish presence.
