are preparing to mark the 40th
anniversary of Israel's in-
dependence. Conference Chair-
man Morris B. Abram noted
that the Conference of
Presidents of Major American
Jewish Organizations will
serve as a clearing-house, for all
events related to this
celebration.
Carolyn Greene has joined
the staff of the Presidents Con-
ference as National Coor-
dinator, it was announced by
Howard Squadron, Chairman
of the National Committee for
the 40th Anniversary. With a
decade of experience in ad-
vocacy for Israel and Jewish
community organizing for the
Coalition to Free Soviet Jews,
Ms. Greene will serve as a na-
tional coordinator.

Americans Adopt
Kibbutz Life

NEW YORK — Thirty-five
North Americans in their ear-
ly 20's will repopulate the high
tech-agricultural Kibbutz
Ravid in the hills above Lake
Kineret, Israel. The settlers,
calling themselves Gal Hadash
(New Wave), are members of the
Habonim Dror youth move-
ment and will leave in late
January or early February
1988.
The group first hoped to
populate the planned Kibbutz
Lavon, but changed its mind
upon discovering that 40 per-
cent of Lavon's land would be
appropriated from nearby Arab
villagers, according to
Habonim Dror.
