Rebellion

Continued from preceding page

government — executive,
legislative and judicial. Those
founding fathers understood
the tendency of power to cor-
rupt, to become more and
more centralized resulting in
some form of tyranny.
Finally, a sense of humility
must guide the true leader.
Moses exhibited that quality
magnificently. The rabbis
told a little story about
Korach and his rebellion. The
crevice in the earth, where
Korach and his followers

were swallowed up, was once
noticed by a group of men
travelling in the area. One of
the men who kneeled down to
examine the division in the
earth looked it over and
seemed to hear something
coming up from the crack in
the earth. It sounded like a
human voice. He bent down
closer with his ear to the
crack, and he heard the
amazing words: "Moses and
his teachings are true, but we
are liars."
