Dr. Martin B. Oliff

Bruce C. Landgarten and
Dr. Martin B. Oliff have been
appointed assistant executive
directors of the Jewish Com-
munity Center. They will
each be responsible for differ-
ing segments of programming
and administration. Both
have served as program di-
rectors at the Center since
September 1984.
Landgarten received his
master's degree from Wayne
State University. His back-
ground includes training in
education, exercise physiol-
ogy and gerontology.
Dr. Oliff earned his doc-
toral degree at the University
of Illinois. He has worked as
a counselor, instructor and a
recreational therapist. After
heading the physical educa-
tion department at the
Jewish Center in Palo Alto,
Calif., he moved to the De-
troit area in 1982.

Honor Holidays

Los Angeles (JTA) — Two
newly passed amendments to
the city charter empower the
Los Angeles city council to
reschedule municipal and
school board elections when
they coincide with religious
holidays or widely observed
public events. The amendments
were contained in a public
referendum passed June 2 by a
vote of 128,498-44,078, a 74 per-
cent approval rate.
