WHAT IS THE C.O.R.?
A MESSAGE FROM THREE COMMUNITY LEADERS

Dr. Conrad Giles

U.S. Senator Carl Levin

Paul Borman

1986 Askin Tzibburi Awardee

General Chairman
57th Anniversary Banquet

Community to our people has always meant more
than the sharing of common geographic boundries. A
shared goal. a joint purpose and the united efforts of
communal activity have maintained the vibrancy of
Jewish life throughout the millenia.
The Council of Orthodox Rabbis' goal in seeking to
preserve traditional Jewish values is a very
praiseworthy one.
By supporting them. we stress the unity of our
community and the aspiration of our common goal.

President, Jewish Welfare Federation

The Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Greater Detroit
are unique, not only because they represent the active
involvement of the united Orthodox community, but
because their interest and endeavors are on behalf of
the entire Jewish people. Our survival as a national
viable and ever growing institution, is their foremost
goal. Through the eyes of communal leadership, I have
seen first hand the efforts and funds that they have
expended in maintaining the traditional lifeline of our
people. Their activities cover every gamut of Jewish life
all in the sincerest of hopes that the maintenance of
traditional Jewish values as well as the communal
support for the Jewish family as an inviolable
institution will keep the promise of the external
existence of our people.

For more than half a century. the Detroit Jewish
Community has benefitted from the singularly
authoritative leadership of the Council of Orthodox
Rabbis. The dynamic work of the Council has made
Detroit a community with the highest standard of
observance in a unified atmosphere with definite goals.
Regardless of one's personal affiliation, he cannot
help but benefit from the forthright work of the Vaad
Harobonim. The absence of of competitive strife, so
prevalent in splintered communities. is due in large
measures to the determination of the Council to keep
the Detroit Jewish Community among the finest in the
quality of its religious observance and standards. The
vitality of your faith is enhanced by their presence.
We call on you to unite in supporting their efforts on
our behalf.
