JEWISH SINGLES

For Selective Dating Call

charge in a number of differ-
ent ways. Some charge a flat
dollar amount to cover the
costs of the first year of work.
Others present an estimate of
the first year's cost and then
bill clients at the end of each
month or quarter for the ac-
tual amount of time spent.
When starting out, fee-only
planners charge around $40-
$60 per hour or $1,000 to
$3,000 per year. Well-
established fee-only planners
may charge between $100 to
$200 an hour or $5,000 to
$10,000 a year. Since most of
the groundwork is laid dur-
ing the first year, the second
year's fees usually come down
to about half the first year's
costs. This is a good rule of
thumb, unless, of course, a
client has a lot of problems
the second year.
Some fee-only planners also
manage money. Therefore, a
fee-only financial planner
might receive two separate
fees, one for financial plan-
ning services and the second
for managing the client's in-
vestments.
It is important to under-
stand the total costs of a fi-
nancial plan and its im-
plementation. Costs include
fixed or hourly fees as well as
brokerage or sales commis-
sions that are paid for the
purchase of investment prod-
ucts.
