Scholar On Wallenberg
Mission At HMC Event
Joseph Zitomersky, recipient
of a special joint-grant between
the Fulbright Commission and
the Raoul Wallenberg Commit-
tee of the U.S. for archival work
and historical research in the
U.S. and Sweden, will deliver a
lecture entitled. "Raoul
Wallenberg: the Genesis of His
Mission and the Question of
His Fate," sponsored by the
Holocaust Memorial Center on
Thursday at 8 p.m. in the
DeRoy Studio Theater at the
main Jewish Community
Center.
Established in 1952, the
Fulbright Commission is a
Swedish-American, govern-
ment-funded institution, whose
primary objective is to further
mutual understanding between
Sweden and the United States
by means of educational ex-
change and student counseling.
Currently research assistant
in the history department of
Lund University, Lund,
Sweden, Zitomersky's
undergraduate work in history
and government was done at
Boston University followed by
special programs at Rhode
Island College (1966), Cornell
University (1967), and in Paris
(1970).
His graduate work in com-
parative and American history
was done at the University of
Michigan. Zitomersky received
numerous grants, honors and
awards in Sweden and from the
University of Michigan, depart-
ment of history, including the
Edward S. Beck Fellowship in
American History (1968), a
comparative history fellowship
and a comparative studies
fellowship.
Zitomersky has held positions
at the University of Michigan;
Lund University; National
School of Continuing Education
for Teachers; University Paul
Sabatier, Toullouse, France;
University of Touluse. Addi-

tionally, Zitomersky was a
member of the organizing com-
mittee for the symposium
"Jewish Life in Nordic Coun-
tries, An Historical Perspec-
tive" held in Uppsala, Sweden,
in October 1986, and also serv-
ed on the organizing committee
for the Forum for Ethnic
Research at Lund University.
Among the professional
organizations in which
Zitomersky holds membership
are the American Association
for Jewish Studies and the Nor-
dic Society for Jewish Research.
The community is invited,
and there is no charge.

Dr. Myles B. Koby, re-
ceived his M.D. degree June
2 from the Wayne State Uni-
versity Medical School. The
Southfield resident is a 1975
graduate of Southfield-
Lathrup High School and the
University of Detroit Dental

Former Detroiter Max Fridman, president of the Tel Mann
(Florida) Chapter of the American Red Magen David for
Israel, led a drive to donate the first ambulance from Orlando,
Fla., to the State of Israel. Fridman is joined by his family at
the dedication ceremonies.
