RESPONDING TO protests
from some parents that
children are being exposed to
sexually explicit books in the
public library, one librarian
kept the books under the
counter and replaced the listing
in the card catalogue with this
message . . . "For SEX — see
the librarian?'
3RD ANNUAL GRAND
PRIX PARTY hosted by
Southfield Chamber of Com-
merce is June 18 at Embassy
Suites Hotel . . . As in other
years, four new automobiles
will be given away . . . Corvette,
Jeep Wrangler, Buick Skylark
and Pontiac LeMans . . . Also a
cruise for two, one of two video
cassette recorders, one of two
compact disc players . . . and
other prizes.

Chamber of Commerce office,
557-6400, or Charlie Dudek,
Mary Tamaroffs secretary,
353-1300 . . . Also as usual, on-
ly 400 tickets will be sold.
CONGRATS ... to Eileen
and Iry Leider . . . on their 37th
anniversary.
MICHAEL MALLY, a
research associate at Children's
Hospital, is among those work-
ing to save the life of Baby An-
dy, who was badly burned in a
mobile home fire.
When the child was brought
into Sparrow Hospital in Lans-
ing, near death, he had exten-
sive burns all over his body .. .
Michael kept thinking of his
and wife Helen's own young
son, Eric, so volunteered and
was put in charge of a special
experimental project . . .
Michael has been working on
the skin growth techniques 18
months at Children's Hospital.
. . . He started with a patch of
skin size of a postage stamp
taken from little Andy's but-
tocks and grew some 400
square inches of new skin . . . It
was taken from the lab and
delivered to Sparrow Hospital
for grafting on Andy's body .. .
As of May 31, Michael's
mother-in-law, Roz Kauffman,
reports that the baby is doing
remarkably well . . . and will
soon be released.
A.R. BRASCH Advertising
not only paid for, but compen-
sated time spent by 12
members (four men and eight
women) who attend weekly
meetings of "Inner Circle" pro-
gram by Weight Watchers .. .
Open House is June 25, 5:30 to
7 p.m. at the WW corporate of-
fices, 28555 Orchard Lake Rd.,
with Micki Berg, director of In-
ner Circle, discussing the in-
novative approach to weight
loss and weight control . . . It
was created to allow for a more
personal type of service
through small groups (8-12
persons).
IF YOU LIKE THE chimp
exhibit at Detroit Zoo (and who
doesn't?) you'll appreciate pro-
motion by Brent Furniture on
E. 14 Mile in Clawson, June
21-30 . . . When a customer re-

quests, Brent will donate five
percent of the customer's pur-
chase . . . in their name ... . to
the chimp exhibit . . . with the
buyer also getting a receipt for
their donation . . . Sure will buy
the chimps a lot of bananas.
NOT A BAD TOPIC "The
World's A Better Place When
You're On Tap Of It" . . . That's
Michael Wickett's message,
June 24, 8 p.m., at the Birm-
ingham Community House on
S. Bates ... presented by
Detroit 'Ibwn ... Previous
people brought in by Noreen
Green Zimmer, director, have
been speakers like Morley
Safer, Phil Donahue, Art
Buchwald, Jimmy Breslin, Jack
Anderson, etc.
Format change for the series
brings a new "star" motiva-
tional speaker who only ap-
pears with major corporations
. . . Noreen's change has a per-
son who powerfully and
energetically teaches techni-
ques and approaches to ideas
and attitudes that attract
greater fulfillment in our per-
sonal, business and social lives
. . . For more info, give her a call
at 351-4433.

CONGRATS ... to Hy
Gastman . . . on his 78th

ticle sent us by Downtown Syn-
agogue's Rabbi Noah Gamze

tion of Florida Today ... telling

Buchenwald camps . * . Former
Detroiters Max and Vera Sat-
tler now live in Melbourne, Fla.

GORMAN's
TROY
celebrated its tenth anniver-
sary this past Tuesday . . . with
the milestone being contribu-
tion to a vital organization in
the area.
The giving program was call-
ed "Home Run" for HAVEN, an
Oakland County shelter for vic-
tims of domestic violence and
sexual abuse . . . June 9, Gor-
man's Troy delivered the last
pieces of furniture for a newly-
designed living room which it
donated to HAVEN . . . Also to
enlarge the contribution, Gor-
man's Troy is donating ten per-
cent of purchases from June
9-15 in the name of customers.

MAIL DEPT.... "This is a
story I would like to share with
anyone who has lost a loved
one. Robert Waltz, age 7, gave
his great aunt, who lost her
husband and had a hard time
going on with her life, this ad-
vice: 'Aunt Pauline, I don't ex-
pect you to forget Uncle Nate,
but pretend your mind is like
an attic and tuck away all the
wonderful memories, and take
them out every once in a while,
and think about him, and cry
if you want, but go on with life
and laugh again! "
Robert's Bubby
(Becky Grossman)
