Techiyah Warns
The Likud

Jerusalem (JTA) — Techiyah,
Israel's largest opposition par-
ty, warned Likud Sunday that
it has one month to establish
new settlements in the West
Bank. Otherwise, lbchiyah said
it would support Labor Party ef-
forts to dissolve the Knesset
and call new elections.
Techiyah's ultimatum follow-
ed a meeting of the party's
leadership, which is divided
over the issue of early elections.
Rafael Eitan wants the Labor-
Likud unity government
brought down immediately. His
Knesset colleague, Geula
Cohen, supports Premier Yit-
zhak Shamir's effort to preserve
the coalition for the remaining
18 months of its term.
Likud sources pointed out in
response to Techiyah that four
of the six new settlements pro-
vided for in the coalition agree-
ment have been built. They
acknowledged there was little
chance the unity government
would establish more than
those six.

Yeridah- Hurts
Israel Economy

Jerusalem (JTA) — The Bank
of Israel has cited yeridah — the
emigration of Israelis to live
permanently abroad — as a fac-
tor for economic stagnation and
the decline of population
growth.
In a report published recent-
ly, the country's central bank
noted that the annual popula-
tion growth in the past two
years was 1.5 percent compared
to an average 1.9 percent in the
years 1981-1984 and 2.3 per-
cent in the years 1975-1980.
