days later issue a clarifica-
tion of what he had intended
— which he did.
The commander of UMM,
Col. N., declared that "it is
our responsibility to dissemi-
nate the information which
we gather — not only to Is-
rael's policy makers, but to
the whole world. Let
everyone know what the
Arabs are thinking and say-
ing in their internal press, to
their own people."
Programs can be picked up
from the other without diffi-
culty — but how does Israel
get the many hundreds of
Arab papers fresh each day?
At one time it was noted that
King Hussein reads the
Jerusalem Post at breakfast
each morning. The only as-
sumption is that somewhere
there must be a gentleman's
agreement calling for ex-
change of papers.
Encyclopedia
Is Thinner
Washington (JTA) — A
new, more manageable edi-
tion of the Encyclopedia Heb-
raica has been released with
the same number of refer-
ences, but half the number of
volumes.
The new edition is the
work of Lakiva Staros-
tinetzki, a self-professed
farmer from Kibbutz Dahlia
outside Haifa, who presented
the Library of Congress with
a complimentary set of the
encyclopedia. The
encyclopedia is published by
Sifriat Poalim, a publishing
company of the Kibbutz Artzi
movement.
Starostinetzki was able to
shorten the set from 34 to 18
volumes by using a thinner,
higher quality paper he found
in a 19th Century British
medical encyclopedia.
Perth Rabbi
To Leave Post
Perth, Australia (JTA) — Say-
ing he had "grave fears for the
future of Perth Jewry" because
of a recent history of infighting,
Rabbi David Morris has become
the second of the community's
two rabbis to resign his post.
The Australian Jewish Times
reports that Morrig, rabbi of the
Temple Beth David, will move
to a pulpit in Adelaide,
Australia by Rosh Hashanah.
Rabbi Jeffrey Kahn left Perth
Hebrew Congregation late last
year.
Announcing his plans, Morris
wrote in the congregational
newsletter that Perth Jewry
"lacked sufficient people of the
required commitment to make
Jewish life here viable," in par-
ticular to warrant two
congregations.
