For
the Graduate,

what do you give the man or
woman who just yesterday
it seems played in puddles,
and now has a first job?

Baltimore — The Union for
Traditional Conservative
Judaism, which in its brief
history has flirted with the idea
of breaking away from the main
body of Conservative Judaism,
is reportedly planning to open
its own seminary.
The Union advocates a more
traditional approach to Conser-
vative Judaism and opposes
having women rabbis and
cantors.
Sources say that a serious
fund-raising effort is underway
to create a new seminary,
which would be called The
Seminary for Traditional
Judaism. Curiously, the initials
STJ are the reverse of the
century-old xrs, the Jewish
Theological Seminary which
now trains Conservative rabbis
and cantors.
Union officials maintain that
they are merely exploring the
option of a new institution.

New York (JTA) — A subur-
ban Chicago Holocaust
memorial, dedicated Sunday
afternoon, was defaced with
spray-painted swastikas and
defamatory phrases before
daybreak Monday. Police in the
suburb, Skokie, are in-
vestigating the crime, but have
no suspects.
The vandalism took place
sometime between 4 and 6 a.m.
Monday. A routine police patrol
discovered it at 6:15.
A $1,000 reward for informa-
tion leading to the arrest and
conviction of those responsible
was offered by the American
Jewish Committee, the Roman
Catholic Archdiocese of
Chicago and the Church
Federation of Greater Chicago.
The monument is the work of
Detroit artist Edward Chesney.
