Laura Kamienny
Is Bat Mitzvah

Laura Kamienny, daughter of
Fred and Elaine Kamienny,
will celebrate her bat mitzvah
by paying tribute to poet Em-
ma Lazarus at services Satur-
day at the Birmingham Temple.
At the same time, Laura has
chosen to share her day of
honor with Slava Grechishkin,
a young Russian Jew. Slava is
the son of Leonid and Olga
Grechishkin, who repeatedly
have been refused emigration
to Israel to be united with their
family.
In preparation for her bat
mitzvah presentation, Laura
has written to Sen. Carl Levin
who has been active in the
cause for Russian Jews.
The theme of Laura's bat
mitzvah is "The World Is a
Rainbow with Friends from
Many Lands" in keeping with
Emma Lazarus's famed Statue
of Liberty poem.
Laura's sister, Sharon, and
grandparents Helen Kamienny
of Southfield, and Janice and
Avery Fried of Florida will be
present along with friends and
family members to honor Laura
on her special day.

Two To Twin
Their B'not Mitzvah

Eden Jaffa and Andrea
Slatkin will twin their b'not
mitzvah with Gulbaor Rabaev
of Derbent, USSR, at Shabbat
services 8 p.m. today at Temple
Israel.
Eden is the daughter of Sheri
and David Jaffa. Andrea is the
daughter of Donna and Robert
Slatkin.
Gulbaor and her family wish
to be united with her father's
parents in Israel. Irmiya,
Gulbaor's father, was drafted
into the army in 1974. While
serving his tour of duty, he was
forced to sign a document
stating that he would not
emigrate for five years. He is
now unable to find work.
Letters have been sent to
Gulbaor and her grandparents,
but there has been no response.
Congratulations may be sent
to: Irmiya Rabaev, Zanalnaya
11/19, Derbent, Dagestanskaya
ASSR, USSR.
