THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

WASN'T A BIG WEDDING
. . . not even a medium-sized
one ... Small maybe, but
ng much more impor-
somethi
tant . . . marital togetherness
that was to last for over 50
years.
It was in her mother's second
floor apartment on Saratoga
Avenue, just couple of blocks
from Pitken in Brooklyn, N.Y.
that Abe and Bea Kallen began
their lasting marriage built on
love and friendship.
After 50 years, they finally
had a reception of size . . . put
on recently by their four sons
. . . Michael (Jackie), David
(Glenda), from. Florida, Mar-
shall (Patti) and Barry (Vicki)
. . . The sons and daughters-in-
law held up a chupa at Fur-
niture Club where many of
Abe's pinochle triumphs have
occurred . . . as Rabbi Robert
Syme did a renewal of the
ceremony . . . with stepping on
the glass mazel tov.
About 100 people celebrated
the 50th Anniversary of Abe
and Bea . . . lavishly put on
with much merriment.. .
Frankie Paul strolled with his
very fine accordion playing .. .
and folks sat down to dinner as
Frankie and his four-piece or-
chestra played for dancing .. .
while daughter Roseanne
Podesta did a very fine job on
the vocals.
Things Abe and Bea didn't do
50 years ago . . . moitze over a
challah and mike,
candlelighting ceremony, peo-
ple sitting at tables where
centerpieces of gold plants held
gold framed pictures of their
children and grandchildren on
gold branches . . . Photo of Abe
and Bea taken in 1946 blown
up and signed by guests .. .
Judge Nate Kaufman singing
with Frankie, Paul Borak, Leo
and Shirley Kaplan, Phil
Kaplan, Marge Mahoney,
Michael making supreme
sacrifice by wearing a tie, Mor-
rie Paster, etc. . . . Brian Kallen,
son of Michael and Jackie,
graduating West Bloomfield
High with a 4.0 average and ac-
cepting scholarship to Univer-
sity of Michigan . . . Cindy
Krigel coming to affair with
picture taken 34 years ago of
David Kallen.. . . Was about the
same time she had given him
his first pocket knife as a bar
mitzvah present.
Guests and relatives singing
and dancing to Frankie Paul's
band.... . Milton Weiss doing
"You Are So Beautiful" and
"On A Clear Day" . . . Helen
Stein, wife of Dr. Fred Stein,
warbling, "My Blue Heaven"
and "If I Didn't Care" . . . and
Leo Kaplan with his "You're
Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves
You" and naturally "Pennies
From Heaven" . . . Phil here
from Florida for doubleheader_
of his grandson Brian's gradua-
tion and Abe and Bea's 50th an-
niversary, doing joke bits and
whistling in the mike.
Special painting of the

honored couple was done by
David Morris from a
photograph..
Bet they never had a sweet
table like this one on Saratoga
Ave. in Brooklyn 50 years ago
when Bea and Abe were mar-
ried . . . but they had something
no one else could give them .
each other . . . and best of all
. . . still do.
DIANE DICKINSON is one
of the many people who abhor
the thought of killing animals
... That's one of the big reasons
why her Corporation Cortina at
Sugar Tree on Orchard Lake
Rd. N. of Maple is the only store
in Michigan with totally ar-
tificial "Humane Trophies" for
folks to hang on their walls .. .
Things like stuffed walrus
head, antelope head, jaguar
head, moose head, etc.
"I DO" DEPT. . . * Hope
"Cookie" Feroni and Barton
Chimoff . . . to do the ring bit on
Nov. 22 . . . If you want to know
who the cateress will be, how
about Shirley Bloom of Bloom's
Catering . . . She's Hope's mom.
WHEN FRANCES SINAI
makes up her mind to do
something, it's done . . . That's
why at age 68 she was in recent
graduating class at Brace
Lederle High . . . With top
honors too . . . enough to earn
her a one-year scholarship to
Oakland Community College.

his dad . . . and A. Must & Sons

nothing except sell cheese .. .

Third in Highland Park.

himself the title, "Professor of
Cheeseology and Licensed Of-
ficial Butter Grader" . . . even
having diplomas made to give
