Radiologist Tonken Dies

Dr. Harvey Ibnken, a former
Detroit radiologist, died May 21
in Pittsburgh, Pa., at age 60.
A native of Toronto, Ont., Dr.
Tonken lived 20 years in Wind-
sor and Detroit prior to moving
to Pittsburgh. He was a 1955
gradaute of the University of
lbronto School of Medicine and
did a radiology internship at
Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital.
He had a fellowship in nuclear
medicine at William Beaumont
Hospital.
In Windsor, he was in general
practice and served on the
staffs of Hotel Dieu, Grace and
I.O.P.E. Memorial Hospitals. He
was a member of Cong. Shaar
Hashomayim, the College of
Physicians and Surgeons of On-
tario, Radiological Society of
North America, the Ontario
Medical Society and the Essex
County Medical Association.
In Detroit, he was a member
of the Michigan State Medical
Society and Cong. B'nai David.
After leaving Detroit, Dr.
Tonken lived in Alpena, where
he was chief of radiology at
Alpena General Hospital and a
member of the Rotary Club. In
1970, he received the Man of
the Year Award presented by
the governor "for his service to
the Northern Michigan com-
munity."
Before moving to Pittsburgh,
Dr. Tanken lived in Johnstown,
Pa., where he had been chief of
radiology at Windber Hospital
and Wheeling Clinic. He was a
memmber of Beth Shalom Con-
gregation of Johnstown, the
Pennsylvania Radiology Socie-
ty and the Cambria County
Medical Society.
In Pittsburgh he was a
member of Rodef Shalom Con-
gregation. Some of Dr. abnken's
other memberships include the
American Medical Association,
American College of Radiology,
Society of Nuclear Medicine
and the Arizona Medical
Association.
He leaves his wife, Anita; a
son, Aaron of Wheeling, W.Va.;
two daughters, Mrs. John
(Melissa) Weiner of Springfield,
Ill., and Heidi of Philadelphia;
three brothers, Dr. Bernard of

Ivan Edelstein

Ivan Edelstein, past president
of the Metro Detroit B'nai
B'rith Bowling Association,
died May 26 at age 55.
Born in Detroit, Mr. Edelstein
was a sale representative for a
home improvement firm. He
was a member of Pisgah Lodge
of B'nai B'rith and past presi-
dent of its bowling league.
He leaves his wife, Sandra; a
son, Jeffrey; a daughter, Mrs.
Steven (Faye) Adelson; his
mother, Mrs. Charles (Renee)
Edelstein; a sister, Mrs. Gerald
(Gail) Starler; and two
granddaughters.

Calgary, Dr. Melvin and David
of Toronto; three sisters, Mrs.
Hannah Schaefer, Karen
Ibnken Landman and Mrs.
Raymond (Laura) Brazeau, all
of Toronto. Interment Detroit.

Regina Weisman

Regina Weisman, a variety
store owner, died May 23 at age
92.
Born in Poland, Mrs.
Weisman lived more than 60
years in Detroit. She was a
member of the Labor Zionist
Alliance, Jewish National
Fund, the sisterhood of Temple
Emanu-El and an honorary
member of "Ibmple Beth El. She
also was a Gold Star mother.
Mrs. Weisman was a past
president of a local chapter of
Pioneer Women/Naamat. She
and her late husband were co-
owners of Modern Five and Ten
in Detroit.
She leaves a son, Donald of
Houston, Tex.; a brother,
Yankel Len of Florida; three
grandchildren and two great-
granddaughters.

Edward Edwards

Edward I. Edwards, a self-
employed jeweler, died May 22
at age 84.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Ed-
wards lived many years in
Detroit prior to moving to
Tamarac, Fla.
He was a member of Jackson
Lodge of the Masons, Sons of
the American Revolution,
Mayflower Society and was ac-
tive in Democratic politics in
Florida.
He leaves his wife, Sara; a
daughter, Mrs. James (Lynn)
Newman of Farmington Hills;
a sister, Mrs. Aid (Miriam)
Kushner of Southfield; and one
granddaughter. Interment
Detroit.

Sol Penn

Sol Penn, a builder and a
master plumber, died May 24 at
age 80.
Born in Russia, Mr. Penn liv-
ed in Detroit since he was 13.
He was a Detroit News carrier
and received numerous awards.
His late wife, Bessie, helped
him become a master plumber
and builder in Detroit, an oc-
cupation he held for 30 years.
He was a member of Cong.
B'nai David for the past 40
years and was a member of
Hebrew Benevolent Society for
many years.
He is survived by a daughter,
Mrs. Merton (Helen) Robbins; a
brother, Marvin; a sister, Mrs.
Steven (Estelle) Wallace; and
three grandchildren.
