If he/she seems more interested in his/her own reflection in the mirror than in directing the class, walk (do not run) to the nearest exit. He/she should make eye contact with members in the class. He/she should be circulating around the class, giving hands-on corrections when needed or giving you that extra boost of energy by exercising next to you. You should be reminded of proper technique, as well as the importance of having fun. You came to class to learn and enjoy. Motivation: The instructor must be the epitome of moti- vation. His/her class is a happening, a party, the place to be. He/she should give you encouragement. He/she should notice when you have done well and commend your efforts. In turn, you should feel great, and want to keep coming back. A motivating instructor has flair — a sense of natural aptitude and style. A motivating teacher sparks interest, not apathy. Everyone in class should feel comfortable. Abilities vary, and we each excel in different areas. You should not be expected to do more than you are capable of at any time, nor should you ever feel deflated because you are at a particular level of fit- ness. The instructor enables you to fit into class comforta- bly. There is a big difference between healthy competition and feeling like you just do not belong. The instructor should let a new person know it is okay to go at his or her own pace. It is hard enough to walk into a class for the first time without having a drill sergeant scream in your face to work harder. Guidance: Before or after class, the instructor should be available to answer questions about the class or exercise- related queries. A competent teacher will only answer questions on topics he/she understands, and will not give out inaccurate informa- tion. If he/she does not know about a topic, he/she might refer you to another source or investigate the answer himself/herself and get back to you at a later time. Commitment: A successful teacher blends his/her unique style with his/her knowledge, in such a way as to entice his/her clients into always coming back. He/she can show you the joys of move- ment, the benefits you feel from doing an exercise cor- rectly, and the results of a smooth class. He/she gives you his/her best, and your body deserves it. 1 1111 :791111111111111•11•1" 11 I/ ,I' 11111 A IF .31111111111111111111116.0 A•IN MI If • / 111■■■ 1•111 ■■ 1 ■ MI& "Mr 1' 1/71 41 17•En ■■ r 1111111111111111111L71 II' A' at ' I lir orgt ur Ar ■■■ mow 11111111111111111111111J a "J MI NNW /11/ • I ..:1911111•••111114111t 11111111V1 Al J.31 I'/ ► 11111111 ■■■■∎■.- ■■■■■ N6L'7 ' • AIWA 11,1111•1111•1111111 ■ .._ ■■ 1101 ■■■■■ 61111 Mr IP' I I/.11111111111111111111111 A.
