Seminary Honors Seven
At Annual Dinner

Seven leaders in the Detroit
area will be honored by The
Jewish Theological Seminary of
America on June 10 at the
Centennial community-wide
dinner at Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
Joyce Borovoy, Dr. Mathew
Borovoy, Betty Cohen, Dr.
Lewis Cohen, Lillian
Hechtman, Samuel Hechtman
and Dr. Joseph Epel will be
presented with the seminary's
Centennial Award of Honor for
their efforts in securing a se-
cond century of Conservative
Judaism.
Marcy Feldman and Dr. Har-
ris Mainster, are the dinner
chairmen. Harold Berry is

The Borovoys

of the Michigan Podiatric
Medical Association, a past
president and founder of the
Women's Auxiliary of Straith
Memorial Hospital, a member
of B'nai Moshe, Israel. Bonds,
and the Woman's Auxiliary of
the United Hebrew Schools.
She is also a committee
member of the Maccabiah
Games.
Dr. Borovoy is chief of sub-
section podiatry at Sinai
Hospital, director of podiatry
residency education at Straith
Memorial Hospital; director of
the externship program at
Straith Memorial Hospital; and
is medical director of the Na-
tional Foot Care Program, Inc.
He has numerous professional
affiliations and appointments,
authored countless papers and
has taught and lectured at col-
leges across the country.

Mrs. Cohen's link with The
Jewish Theological Seminary of
America is lifelong. Her father,
the late Rabbi Jacob Bosniak of
Brooklyn, N.Y., was graduated
from the seminary in 1917,
receiving a Doctor of Hebrew
Letters degree in 1947. She has
been very active in the com-
munity as program chairman
for the former Beth Aaron
Sisterhood and the American
Jewish Congress. She is also a
ten-year participant of the
speakers bureau of the Jewish
Community Council and a
member of Hadassah.

The Cohens

Dr. Cohen has served on the
board of directors of the former
Beth Aaron Synagogue and the
United Hebrew Schools; as vice
president of the Great Lakes
Men's Clubs; as a member of
Beth Shalom Synagogue, B'nai
B'rith, the Technion Society
and the American Israel Public
Affairs Committee. An
honorary medical staff member
of the Rehabilitation Institute,
Dr. Cohen is an emeritus staff
member of Sinai Hospital and
has been engaged in the prac-
tice of physical medicine and
rehabilitation in Detroit since
1949, serving as a consultant at
several hospitals.
Dr. Epel of Shaarey Zedek is
an inventor, holding numerous
patents on materials, equip-
ment and processes in the field
of reinforced. plastics. He is a
consultant on composites to the
major 500 companies that are
material suppliers, molders and
OEM's. He has innumerable

religious affiliations.
The Hechtmans are longtime
members of Adat Shalom.
Hechtman has been president
and director of Practical Home
Builders, Inc. and affiliates
since its organization in 1938.
He has been chairman of the
