B'nai David, will be honored at the 1987 B'nai David Dinner of Tribute on behalf of State of Israel Bonds, it was announced by congrega- tion President Fred Ferber. The event, scheduled for 6 p.m. June 9 at the synagogue, will see Shapiro presented with the State of Israel's Gates of Jerusalem Medal, "in recognition of his service to his congregation, the community and the Jewish state." This is the second Israel Bond tribute awarded to the Shapiro family; in 1983 his father, Asa, was similarly honored by B'nai David. Mickey Shapiro is a finan- cier with ownership positions in numerous real estate, re- tail and financial institutions throughout the United States. He also has a minor- ity ownership position in the Chicago White Sox baseball team, "just for fun" he says. A member of the Israel Bonds Presidents Club, and a leader in his synagogue, Shapiro is also involved in a number of philanthropic organizations, with focus on Jewish causes, principally the Yeshivath Beth Yehudah and Mickey Shapiro the Holocaust Memorial Cen- ter, of which he is a director.
