B'nai Israel Cantors Concert Features
Danto, Bagley, Klein, Najman

Cong. B'nai Israel of West
Bloomfield, in conjunction
with the Cantors Assembly of
America, will present a can-
torial concert at 7:30 p.m.
June 17 at the synagogue.
Appearing in the concert
will be Cantor David Bagley
of Cong. Beth Shalom, To-
ronto; Cantor Louis Danto, of
Beth Emeth-Bais Yehudah,
Toronto; Cantor Louis Klein
of Cong. B'nai Moshe; and
Cantor Chaim Najman of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
Proceeds from the concert
will go to the endowment
fund of the Cantors Assembly
— Cantors Institute of the
Jewish Theological Seminary.
A native of Lithuania,
Cantor Bagley attended
yeshivot in Europe and
Shanghai. The renowned con-
cert artist came to the U.S.
as a teenager and pursued a
cantorial career. He was the
cantor at the former Cong.
Beth Aaron in Detroit, and
served synagogues in Tel
Aviv, South Africa and
Montreal.
Singing in what is termed
a robust tenor, Cantor Bagley
has performed and officiated
before dignitaries in the U.S.
and Israel. He has many al-
bums to his credit.
Cantor Danto, who is noted

for his interpretation of
classical art songs in the
Jewish and secular reper-
toires, was trained in the Ita-
lian Bel Canto style. A native
of Russia, Cantor Danto was
at the Park Synagogue in
Cleveland, Ohio, and served
in Atlantic Beach, N.Y. as
well. He's been at Beth
Emeth-Bais Yehudah for the
past 20 years.
He has concertized exten-
sively throughout the world
and has recorded secular and
liturgical music.
Cantor Klein has served
Cong. B'nai Moshe for nearly
30 years and has served as
president of the Detroit Can-
tors Council and has ap-
peared in concert throughout
Michigan and the Midwest.
Cantor Najman has been
the cantor of Cong. Shaarey

Zedek since 1979 and has ap-
peared in concert throughout
the U.S. and has sung at
major national Jewish organ-
izations and commemora-
tions.
