Lori Gartenberg

Lori Faith Gartenberg,
daughter of Sydney and Susan
Gartenberg of Farmington
Hills, will observe her bat mitz-
vah today at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek. Rabbi Irwin Groner and
Cantor Chaim Najman will of-
ficiate. Lori wil share this occa-
sion with Yulia Brodsky of
Ukrainian SSR, USSR. Yulia is
unable to enjoy the religious
freedom to celebrate her bat
mitzvah.
Yulia's parents are both
physicians. Alexander and
Elena Brodsky applied for exit
visas in 1979. Although their
brother has been able to leave
USSR for Brooklyn, N.Y., the
Alexander Brodskys were forc-
ed to remain.
The Brodsky's live in the ci-
ty of Donetsk where very few
Jews have been 'able to
emigrate. Lori would like to
have letters sent to: Yulia Brod-
sky, do Ivana Tkachenko 135,
Apt. 20, Donetsk 340062,
Ukrainian SSR, USSR.
The Brodskys have been
harassed and penalized simply
because they are Jewish. Their
telephone was taken away and
returned after six years.
Lori's sisters, Elissa and Ran-
di, also will participate in the
ceremony.
Lori's great-grandmother,
Esther Kert, and grandparents
Betty Schwartz and Joseph and
Marsha Gartenberg also will
participate in the Friday night
service.

Whether we like it or not,
stress and tension are a part of
our everyday lives.
Sure, we all know someone
who says, "I work better under
stress," But what about the rest
of us?
Recent research by Dr. Hans
Selye, head of
the Institute
of Experimen-
tal Medicine
and Surgery
at the Univer-
sity of Mon-
treal, has pro-
duced some
interesting
links between
prolonged
stress and cer- DR. STANLEY

disorders.
Dr. Selye's work indicates a
strong link between stress and
asthma, rheumatoid arthritis,
migraines, high blood pressure,
peptic ulcers, heart disease, and
hypoglycemia. Yet some people
thrive on stress situations while
their co-workers become am-
bulatory basket cases. Wherein
lies the difference?

You can feel better

all sales final • no charges • no instructions

The basic difference appears
to lie in what Dr. Selye calls
"adaptation energy," or the
ability with to cope with stress.
In a stress situation, the body's
defenses quickly mobilize to
cope with it. This mobilization
places a heavy load on the pan-
creas and adrenal glands.
While mental attitude plays a
part in dealing with stress, the
general physical condition of a
person is even more important.
Like all parts of the body, the
pancreas aid adrenal glands de-
pend on nerve impulses from the
brain in order to function pro-
perly. When nerve interference
is present, as in the case of a
displaced vertebra pinching the
nerve, the pancreas and adrenal
glands will be unable to cope
with the increased load placed
on them by stress.
Since 1895, the goal of
Chiropractic care has been to
eliminate nerve interference.
While good health through
Chiropractic cannot eliminate
stress and tension, it can great-
ly improve your chances to cope
with them.
