Akiva Teacher Gets
Curriculum Award
-
Flo Ziffer, the third grade
Jewish Studies teacher at
Akiva Hebrew Day School is
one of the two recipients of the
Rabbi Isaac Simon Annual
Curriculum Award for de-
velopment of innovative edu-
cational materials for the
teaching of Bible. The award
carries a cash prize of $1,000.
Rabbi Shmuenopin, princi-
pal of Akiva Hebrew Day
School, accepted the award on
behalf of Ziffer at the annual
National Torah Umesorah
Convention in New York State
on May 9.
The Rabbi Simon awards
were initiated by his two
daughters, Dr. Tamy Chelst of
Oak Park and Avivya Stohl of
Jamaica Estates, N.Y. along
with their husbands, Dr. Ken-
neth Chelst and Dr. William
Stohl. The family members ex-
pressed a desire to encourage
Chumash teachers to upgrade
and develop materials that can
be published and disseminated
widely.
The Chelsts and Stohls chose
to commemorate their late
parents, Rabbi Isaac Simon,
Jack and Sarah Chelst and
grandparents Moses and
Esther Chelst, through
encouraging these curriculum
presentations.
