New Leadership Division
To Hear Rabbi Roman

Temple Kol Ami will welcome
the New Leadership Division of
State of Israel Bonds at a recep-
tion, 8 p.m. May 27 at the tem-
ple, 5085 Walnut Lake Road,
West Bloomfield.
Rabbi Norman T. Roman,
spiritual leader of the congrega-
tion, will present a "History of
Israel Through Its Folk Music."
Prior to assuming the pulpit
at Temple Kol Ami, Rabbi
Roman was the associate rabbi
at Temple Beth El. He previous-
ly held rabbinical posts in
Cleveland, Ohio, and Santa
Monica, Calif.
He received his X.B. degree
with honors from John Carroll
University in Cleveland and
was ordained at the Cincinnati
campus of the Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute 'of
Religion, where he also earned
a Master of Arts degree in
Hebrew Letters.
Rabbi Roman has been an ad-
junct lecturer in religious
studies at Detroit's Madonna
College. While in Cleveland, he
was visiting instructor and ac-
ting chairman of the depart-
ment of philosophy and religion
at Lake Erie College. In addi-
tion to his speaking
engagements in interfaith,
academic and general com-
munities, Rabbi Roman is a folk
singer, having performed for
Jewish groups locally, national-
ly 'and throughout Israel, where
he has entertained the troops of
the Israel Defense Forces.
Rabbi Roman is the im-
mediate past chairman of the
Committee on Youth of the

Central
Conference
of
American Rabbis (Reform) and
a vice president of the Great
Lakes-Ohio Valley Regional
Association of Reform Rabbis.
He serves on the Rabbinic
Cabinet of the United Jewish
Appeal and on the Community
Services Division of the Detroit
Jewish Welfare Federation.
He will continue to advise the
programs of Michigan State
Temple Youth (MSTY) as its
rabbinic dean. Rabbi Roman
represented the Detroit Soviet
Jewry Committee on a visit to
Soviet refuseniks in September,
1983, and was recently named
Detroit coordinator for
MAZON-A Jewish Response to
Hunger.

free, and no Israel Bond
solicitations will be made. For

Nursery And Camp
Open House

Beth Abraham Hillel Moses
Nursery School invites
families of prospective summer
campers, and those interested
in summer enrollment to an
open house noon Sunday at the
synagogue.
On hand to meet parents will
be Anita Jacobs, director of the
summer camp, and Joyce Eps-
tein, who will be the director of
the nursery school in Sep-
