I When So Sorry is not enough . . Send a tray Nibbles & Nuts Max Pincus, Notable Among Detroit Boosters Max J. Pincus, a leading Detroit booster, former retail clothing executive and owner of the London Chop House, died May 9 at age 63. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Pincus lived 36 years in Detroit. From 1951 to 1980, Mr. Pincus owned, with his brother Bernard, the Hughes and Hatcher chain of clothing stores, of which he was the president. The brothers sold their company in 1980. In 1982, Mr. Pincus bought the London Chop House and the Caucus Club, the latter of which he sold in 1986. A graduate of Harvard University, Mr. Pincus served in the Army Corps of Engineers and worked on the Manhattan Project during World War II. He later joined the family clothing business prior to moving to Detroit. He was a notable among Detroit's movers and shakers, and with his wife, Lainie, benefitted many charitable projects. In the civic sphere, Mr. Pincus was a member of the board of Robert Rosenberg Former Detroiter Robert N. Rosenberg, a member of the State of Michigan Attorney General's staff since 1973, died May 10 at age 40. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Mr. Rosenberg resided in Detroit prior to moving to East Lansing in 1973. He was graduated from the University of Michigan Law School with a J.D. degree in 1973. Mr. Rosenberg was a member of East Lansing's Cong. Shaarey Zedek, State Bar of Michigan and the American Association of Public Welfare Attorneys. He is survived by his wife, Janis; a son, Jeff; a daughter, Jill; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Rosenberg of Southfield; a brother, Stanley of Bloomfield Hills; nieces and nephews. Dr. Rosefield Dr. John L. Rosefield, a fami- ly physician in Detroit for 60 years, died May 4 at age. 87. Born in Minsk, Russia, Dr. Rosefield lived 83 years in Detroit. He attended Cass 'Tech, Wayne State University and the University of Michigan Medical School. He was a staff doctor at Hutzel Hospital and had cared for nearly four generations of patients. He leaves a son, Ronald Ross; a brother, Sol Rosenfeld; two sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Gray and Mrs. Ben (Rose) Miller; and two grandsons. governors of Wayne State University for 16 years, was a member of the City of Detroit Arts Commission, a board member of the Friends School in Detroit, had co-chaired an NAACP Fight for Freedom din- ner and had served as vice president of the Michigan Association for Emotionally Disturbed Children. In the Jewish community, Mr. Pincus was a member of Franklin Hills Country Club, a former member of Temple Emanu-El, a former member of the Jewish Welfare Federation Board of Governors and its Community Relations Division, former co-chairman of the Mer- cantile Division of the Allied Jewish Campaign and a former AJCampaign chairman. Besides his wife, Mr. Pincus is survived by two daughters, Julie of San Francisco, Calif., and Lisa of Aspen, Cola; a son, James Yaffe of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two brothers, Ber- nard and Jack of Los Angeles. Nathan Tarnow Nathan Tarnow, co-founder of Tarnow Electric Supply, died May 9 at age 79. Born in Detroit, Mr. Tarnow started his business in 1935 and it is still in operation today. He was the unofficial host to visiting baseball umpires. They awarded him a lifetime pass to any baseball game in the coun- try. He spent many years visiting the Detroit Tigers in Lakeland, Fla., during spring training. He was a member of the Crisis Club, The 2,000 Club, The Recess Club, The 100 Club, Boys Town of Italy, the Elec- trical Old Timers, the Hannah Schloss Old Timers. He leaves two sons, Arthur and Robert; a daughter, Mrs. Isadore (Adrienne) Goldbaum; three brothers, Ben, William and Louis; a sister, Gloria; 12 grandchildren and one great- granddaughter. Bernice Neuman Bernice Neuman, a member of Jewish organizations in Flint, died May 4, at age 84. Born in Poland, Mrs. Neuman was a member of Flint's Thmple Beth El, Women's American ORT, Hadassah and B'nai B'rith.
