Tel Aviv Is
Not Cheap

Roman Catholic Archbishop of Detroit

Jerusalem — Tel Aviv was
rated the 35th most expensive
city for business people — just
one point behind New York Ci-
ty and just above Los Angeles
— according to a recent ex-
ecutive cost-of-living survey.
The Japanese cities of Tokyo
and Osaka captured the first
two places on the list, while the
cheapest cities are listed as Rio
de Janeiro, Beijing and Mexico
City.
Meanwhile, Tel Aviv's popula-
tion is shrinking. 1,753
residents left the city in 1985,
the last year for which figures
are given. The city's population
was 322,800 that year. Greater
Aviv registered 1.6 million
residents in 1985, a 26 percent
increase since 1972.
