New York — A new genera-
tion of American Jews seems
obsessed with accumulating
wealth, according to an interna-
tional communal leader and
rabbi who has been teaching
students at Yeshiva University
in New York City for more than
three decades.
Dr. Louis Bernstein, spiritual
leader of Young Israel of Wind-
sor Park in Bayside, N.Y., and
a member of the Board of
Governors of the Jewish Agen-
cy in Jerusalem, believes that,
in the face of this trend-,
teachers should put added em-
phasis on a value system that
stresses more than just finan-
cial gain.
But recent scandals on Wall
Street "are a product of this
new generation that thinks
mostly of wealth," according to
Dr. Bernstein. "As teachers, we
must swim against the tide and
provide students with counter-
influence."
Instead of young Jews con-
centrating all their energies on
making money, Dr. Bernstein
believes they should also think
about serving the Jewish
community.
Britain Open
To Waldheim
London (JTA) — Britain
considers unproved the alle-
gations that President Kurt
Waldheim of Austria was in-
volved in Nazi atrocities dur-
ing World War II and sees no
reason to bar him from visit-
ing the United Kingdom, a
foreign office spokesman said
April 29.

The
clashed with the decision by
the U.S. Justice Department,
announced in Washington
April 27, to bar Waldheim
from entering the U.S. in
private capacity because "a
prima facie case of excluda-
bility exists" based on evi-
dence of Waldheim's activi-
ties as a Wehrmacht officer
in the Balkans during the
war.
