of Southfield's finest party giv-
ing as Arts Cotillion presented
"A Night in the Big Apple"
dinner-dance at Michigan Inn.
Can't ever remember going to
an event given by City of
Southfield that had such a hap-
py flair.
The Arts Cotillion black tie
shindig was a superb presenta-
tion . . . Hall outside Grand
Ballroom was set up as "Cen-
tral Park" with monkey kissing
hands of those who gave him
anything but a penny, mimes,
hot dog stand, popcorn stand,
large pretzels with mustard,
park benches, flame eater,
"grass" carpeting, caricaturist,
photographers like Mort Stein
snapping folks and giving them
good-looking Polaraids . . . etc.
. . . Mort had lass putting them
in cardboard frames.
Then inside to the lavishly-
decorated ballroom . . . where
Warren Pierce did a marvelous
job of emceeing with his pro-
table mike that took him
everywhere . . . even into the
kitchen . . . as he strolled along
the huge Grand Ballroom floor.
About the dinner . . . I never
have been much for baby quail,
so won't comment . . . The
entertainment was superb .. .
as Phil Marcus Esser and Bar-
bara Bredius did solos and
togetherness vocals from
Broadway musicals as they
strolled the Grand Ballroom
floor.
At our table were . . . Mayor
Don Fracassi and wife Karen,
City Treasurer Roman and
Judy Gronkowsky, Debbie
George and Toni Paul . . . Don
was honored last night in
Southfield Pavillion for his 20
years service to the city . . . five
as councilman and 15 as mayor.
We had an excellent waitress
. . . Linda Wickerson . . . very
fast, efficient, always smiling,
extremely sweet and ultra-
personable . . . Michigan Inn is
lucky to have someone like her
. . . she's really that good.
I didn't eat much of the quail
. . . the meat isn't too plentiful
. . . so Peter Mitoff brought me
a hotdog on hashed brown
potatoes . . . Under any other
circumstances, I would have
gobbled it up . . . Don't know
whose idea it was for baby quail
or dandelion salad . . . but it
was a good thing so much to eat
in "Central Park" before going
into the Grand Ballroom.
Swell dance music . . . Sound-
ed like yesteryears at the
Graystone Ballroom or
Eastwood Gardens . . . as the
very fine 18-piece Executives
played songs of days past .. .
plus theme tunes of the big
bands . . . This was dancing at
its best . . . that also helped
make for a thoroughly en-
joyable evening.
Everyone was given a hand-
led Gucci bag to take home .. .
filled with bagels, bottle of wine
and little trinkets.
In other words, those who put
on the affair really did it with
class . . . and much kudos must
be given people like general
chairman Chris Christiano and
vice chairperson Ann Belanger.
Beautiful fashions by Ro-
seanne Schlussle were all about
. . . 29th birthday of Southfield
and a huge cake cut by Mayor
Don Fracassi, wines poured at
will during dinner, open bar
before dinner, joyful entertain-
ment and so many little things
that go toward the making of a
very fine evening.
Southfield is an excellent ci-
ty in which to live and work .. .
affairs like this make it even
better.
TEN OF CHUCK MUER'S
restaurants will be purchased
. . . and taken over by October
. . . with new bossfolks Ken
Walter and Dick Sikorsky,
owners of Panache in Birm-
ingham and Rikki's at
American Center Bldg. in
Southfield . . . The restaurants
are . . . Bloomfield Charley's,
Southfield " Charley's,
Meriwether's on Telegraph in
Southfield, Diggers, Livonia
Charley's, Northville Charley's,
Uptos, n Charley's, Eastside
Charley's, Fairlane Charley's
and Chuch Muer Roadhouse in
Ken was with Chuck ten
years . . . from 1976 to January,
1986.
BAKER'S LOAF on North-
western Hwy. has received
award as "National Retail
Bakery of The Year" by Bakery
Production and Marketing
Magazine (Gorman Publishing,
Chicago, Ill.) . . . in conjunction
with National Association,
Bakers of American . . . It is
owned by Duane and Paula
Christ.
THOSE WHO HAVE
CALLED or written asking for
number of Elaine Polk, who
teaches cholesterol-cutting
classes in her Farmington Hills
home . . . It's 661-5810 . . . Her
series of four special dietary
classes cover sugar-free, salt-
free, no added fat and low
cholesterol . . . Fee for all four
is $50.
FASHIONABLE EARLY

Telegraph . . . from 4:30 to 6

day through Saturday . . . Gary
and Jack Cochran, son and dad,
have also included a couple of
American Heart Association
listings . . . This menu is in ad-
dition to the regular Beau
Jack's bill of fare and daily
