rael Hashomer interests in
recent years, with her affilia-
tion with the liberal Zionist
movement. This association
strengthened her activism in
the Jewish National Fund in
recent years in the Detroit
Zionist Federation.
The beginnings were in her
alignment in Ann Abor in
her undergraduate years with
the Menorah Association, the
predecessor of Hillel. She was
a leader then in women's
ranks at the university.

WJC Meets
In Budapest

Budapest (JTA) — Jewish
leaders from 26 countries,
from both East and West,
gathered Tuesday for the
opening Wednesday of the
first major Jewish conference
to be held in a Communist-
bloc country since the end of
World War II.
The two-day meeting of the
enlarged executive of the
World Jewish Congress sym-
bolically examined the issue
of Soviet Jewry and East-
West relations.
The delegates also gathered
at the foot of the statue
erected for Raoul Wallenberg
to lay a wreath in honor of
the man who risked his life
to save tens of thousands of
Jews during the last days of
the Nazi occupation of the
city.
The conference opened in
an optimistic atmosphere
with delegates and WJC offi-
cials stressing that the meet-
ing could probably not have
taken place in a socialist
country without at least the
tacit approval of the Soviet
Union.

15-Year Pattern

New York 8 The current
wave of anti-Semitic litera-
ture in Japan blaming
American Jews for that na-
tion's economic problems is
part of a nearly 15-year pat-
tern of anti-Jewish books and
articles that have been pub-
lished there, according to a
report issued by the Anti-
Defamation League of B'nai
B'rith.
