LEGAL NOTICE

NOTICE OF
PUBLIC HEARING ON
INCREASING PROPERTY TAXES

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that
the City Council of the City of
Oak Park, Oakland County,
Michigan, will hold a public
hearing to take testimony and
discuss the levy of an additional
proposed millage rate of 0.14
mills for operating purposes in
1987, pursuant to Act 5 of the
Public Acts of 1982. The public
hearing will be held on Monday,
May 11, 1987 at 7:00 o'clock in
the evening, at the Council
Chambers, 13600 Oak Park
Boulevard, Oak Park, Michigan.
Pursuant to Act 5 of the Public
Acts of 1982, the City's base tax
rate has been liinited to 22.86
mills. However, the City Council
has the complete authority to
establish the number of mills to
be levied from within its max-
imum authorized operating
millage rate of 23.00 mills,
which includes millage for
general operating purposes and
sanitation, but does not include
taxes for the payment of bonded
indebtedness.
If the City Council adopts the
maximum additional proposed
millage rate set forth above, this
would permit the levy of 23.00
mills for operating purposes, and
would increase revenues for
operating purposes from ad
valorem property tax levies in
1987 by 0.6% over what would
otherwise be permitted by Act 5
of the Public Acts of 1982.
Last year, 1986, the City of
Oak Park levied 23.00 mills for
operating purposes. Adoption of
the proposed additional millage
rate set forth above would per-
mit the City to levy 23.00 mills
in 1987. Not less than seven (7)
days following the pubic hearing,
the City Council may approve all
or any portion of the proposed
additional millage rate.
This Notice is given by order of
the City of Oak Park, Michigan.
