Goldstein Dr. Herbert Goldstein, a medical doctor with offices in Southfield, died April 24 at age 60. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dr. Goldstein lived 34 years in Detroit. He was the current director of medical manage- ment of Select Care. Dr. Goldstein was educated at New York University and was graduated from its medi- cal school in 1949. He was a fellow of the American College of Utiliza- tion Review Physicians, a member of the American Col- lege of Physicians, Cong. Beth Shalom, past president of the Piccolo Regional Opera Society and a patron of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for more than 30 years. He was also a flight surgeon with the U.S. Air Force dur- ing the Korean War. He leaves his wife, Bar- bara; two sons, Mark of New Orleans, La., and Eric of Aim Arbor; a brother, Bernard of Princeton, N.J.; and a sister, Betty Lapidus of West Palm Beach, Fla. Cynthia Weiss Cynthia Lynn Weiss, a sys- tems analyst for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., died April 23 at age 37. Born in Detroit, Mr. Weiss had been living in New York City for the past six years. She was graduated from Cass Tech and was a National Merit Scholar. She was a member of the Cass Tech harp and vocal group. She was interested in art, the outdoors, music and poetry. While a student at Cass, she tutored inner city students. Ms. Weiss was graduated from the University of Michi- gan in 1971. She leaves her mother, Mrs. William (Betty) Weiss of Southfield and a brother, Ronald of Ann Arbor. Inter- ment Detroit. Sidney Gray Sidney C. Gray, a manufac- turer of automation equip- ment, died April 22 at age 87. Born in Springfield, Mass., Mr. Gray lived 67 years in Detroit. He was a member of Adat Shalom Synagogue. In the mid-1930s he was Michi- gan State Senator. He also was a past president of the Horsemen's Protective and Benevolent Association. Mr. Gray had owned race horses for many years. Born in Toronto, Mr. Faber came to Detroit in 1928 and moved to Delray Beach, Fla., in 1979. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member in Detroit of the In- ternational Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He is survived by a sister, Anne of Delray Beach. Interment Florida. Abe Tompkins Abe Tompkins, a founder of the Livonia Jewish Congre- gation, died April 25 at age 73. Born in British Columbis, Canada, Mr. Tompkins was a general manager of a potato chip company. He was a vol- unteer at Botsford General Hospital, a member of Jewish War Veterans and Israel Numismatic Society. He leaves his wife, Ruby; a son, A. Stewart; a daughter, Dr. Francine of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two grandchildren. Freeda Spring Freeda Spring, a member of Jewish women's organizations, died April 24 at age 91. Born in Poland, Mrs. Spring lived 67 years in Detroit. She was a member of Hadassah, Women's American ORT and B'nai B'rith. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. A. Albert (Beatrice) Sugar and Mrs. Jesse (Florence) Rice; six grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. Estelle Warren Estelle Bussell Warren, financial secretary for Parkwood Chapter of Women's American ORT, died April 22. Born in Detroit, Mrs. Warren was a regional board member of Women's American ORT, a member and past president of Zager Chapter of B'nai B'rith Women, a member of Hadassah, League of Jewish Women's Organizations and a past board member, Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary, Workmen's Circle and Adat Shalom Synagogue. She leaves her husband, Samuel J.; a daughter, Miriam Debra; and a sister, Mrs. Sher- man (Lillian) Nacmani.
