ANYDAY! presents "V We Ve Eaca 7/6"eAte"9/te " A omedy Thriller By Peter Colley DINE-IN OR CARRY-OUT Group Rates & Performances Available Friday & Saturday Show 8:30 PM ence at Interlochen, Michi- gan. He was selected Dentist of the Year in 1979 by the Michigan Dental Association, Michiganian of the Year in 1982 by The Detroit News, and the first Jewish president of the Oakland County Den- tal Society. Konikow is a fellow in the Academy of Pededontics, a fellow in the International College of Dentists and the former president of the Michigan Society of Dentistry for Children and of the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped. What motivates a man to dedicate hours a day to his profession of dentistry and then volunteer as many hours or more for no pay to the Chamber Music Society of Detroit? "I like to make every day count," he said. "One should do everything he can with his life. I love people. I love to be with them and I love music. My work for the CMS is like drinking a glass of good wine. I want to share it with others because it tastes so good," he explained. Konikow is very excited about the future of music in Detroit. He announced the CMS will open its 1987-88 season on Sept. 11 with a mini-festival featuring the Guarneri String Quartet and the Beaux Arts Trio. He envisions Orchestra Hall serving as a key cultural cen- ter for the community and hopes his Chamber Musical Society will someday be fi- nancially self-sufficient. His own immediate future includes serving with Lindy as hosts for the Chamber Music Society's trip to the Salzburg Music Festival and to Vienna and Budapest this summer. Luckily Lindy shares her husband's dreams and inter- ests, just as he shares her. "He makes our life enjoy- able, interesting and fun," she said. "I'm proud of how he lives his life." 111 Center Symphony Or- chestra will present the Ven- tura String Quartet perform- ing the music of Haydn, Beethoven and Chajes, 3:30 p.m. May 10. A wine recep- tion will follow the concert. Preceding the concert, El- khonon Yoffe will speak on "All You Have Wanted to Know About Tchaikovsky and Have Been Afraid to Ask," 2 p.m. May 10, in the Center library. Yoffe is a graduate musicologist and head libra- rian with the Detroit Sym- phony Orchestra.
