In the future, Mrs. Weiner
said, Council will go "wher-
ever it sees a place where
volunteers can meet an
unmet need." Its particular
areas of interest are women,
the aging, Israel and Jewish
life and children.
One of the achievements of
the Detroit Section she
lauded was the Orchards
Children's Services, a NCJW
project which helps children
with emotional problems, and
includes foster home and
adoption services. "It's a
great contribution to the
state and the country," she
remarked.
Included among Mrs.
Weiner's awards are the
Greater Detroit Section's
Hannah G. Solomon Award
and the Rosa Parks Award
from Women In Community
Service (WICS). In 1960 she
received a special honor from
the Women's Advertising
Club in Detroit and that
same year was given the key
to the city by the mayor.
She received the St. Ursula
Medal from the Glengarda
School for Retarded Children
in 1969 and is also an honor-
ary fellow of the Hebrew
University in Jerusalem.
Mrs. Weiner is a summa
cum laude graduate of The
University of Michigan,
where she also received a
master's degree. She earned a
teacher's certificate at Wayne
State University and is a
member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Michigan Region
At Convention

Michigan Region will be
among seven Hadassah
regions and three large city
chapters which will partici-
pate in the Diamond Jubilee
Spring Conference Sunday
through Tuesday at the
Hyatt Lincolnwood Hotel in
Lincolnwood, Ill.
Michigan Region's delega-
tion will be headed by Ruth
Lando of Kalamazoo, Michi-
gan Region president. Susan
Yorke, Greater Detroit Chap-
ter president, will represent
Detroit on the steering com-
mittee. Pat Fauer of Flint,
former Michigan president, is
Michigan Region chairwoman
for the conference. Ruth
Zeligs of Cincinnati is the
conference chairwoman.
The conference will be ad-
dressed by Dr. Shmuel Pen-
chas, director general of the
Hadassah Medical Organiza-
tion; Carmela Kalmanson,
national conference adviser, a
national vice president of
Hadassah and chairwoman of
Zionist affairs; and Dr.
Miriam Freund-Rosenthal of
St. Paul, Minn.; honorary
vice president and a past na-
tional president of Hadassah.
