Cantor Jeffrey Klepper, a
leading figure in the de-
velopment of new music for
the synagogue, will be the
guest this weekend of Temple
Israel.
Klepper will appear Sun-
day morning under the au-
spices of the Keffy Orbach
Concert Fund, at the temple
and at its Green School and
Orchard Lake Middle School
branches.
He also will conduct a
workshop for music teachers
of all local congregations at 2
p.m. that same day at the
temple.
The workshop is sponsored
by the temple in cooperation
with the Endowment Fund of
the United Hebrew Schools.
Klepper, who has played
guitar since age 10, has com-
posed and recorded dozens of
Jewish songs. He is co-
founder of the acclaimed
musical duo, Kol B' Seder,
whose music has influenced a
generation of young Jews.
After receiving his canto-
rial degree from Hebrew
Union College-Jewish Insti-
tute of Religion, Klepper has
served congregations in New
York and Israel, and since
1982, has been cantor of Beth
Emeth Free Synagogue in
Evanston, Ill.

form movement nationally.
He serves on the Reform
movement's Commission on
Synagogue Music and the
executive board of the Ameri-
can Conference of Cantors.
The Keffy Orbach Memo-
rial Fund, which brings Can-
tor Klepper to the Detroit-
area, is named for the late
granddaughter of Cantor
Harold and Evelyn Orbach.
