The institute is called "This Is Judaism," and will feature as keynote speaker Rabbi Daniel B. Syme, vice president of the Union of American Hebrew Congrega- tions. Rabbi Syme will speak on "Genuine Understanding — Genuine Friendship." His ad- dress will be followed by in- dividual workshop sessions led by Temple Israel's rabbis. Rabbi M. Robert Syme, the father of Rabbi Daniel Syme, will lead a session on "Impor- tant Events in the Life of a Jew." Rabbi Harold S. Loss will speak on "Important Holidays in the Life of a Jew." Rabbi Paul M. Yedwab will head a session on "Im- portant Values We Teach Our Children." The entire program is chaired by Sonia Syme, who is coordinating the institute as director of the sisterhood's department of religion and education. The institute will begin at 11:30 a.m. with ceremonial displays that explain the cycle of Jewish holidays and the symbols for celebration in both the synagogue and home. A complimentary luncheon will be served, after which the formal program will take place. A question and answer period will close the session at 3:30 p.m. Teachers and school offi- cials from Walled Lake, Troy, Rabbi Daniel Syme Southfield, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield have been invited.
