great-grandchildren.

MAX E. KLEIN, 82, died

April 8. He leaves his wife,
Tessie; two daughters, Mrs.
David (Barbara) Moran of
Scottsdale, Ariz., and Joyce
Bland; seven grandchildren and
two great-granddaughters.

TILLIE KULISH, 78, died

April 9. She leaves her hus-
band, Irwin; a son, Harold; a
daughter, Mrs. Melvin
(Geraldine) Lester; and six
grandchildren.

ELIZABETH MILLER, 69,
former Franklin resident of
Newton, Mass., died March 28.
She leaves three sons, Dr. Jay
of Vancouver, Wash., Marc of
Andover, Mass., and Dr. Roy of
Coopers Mills, Maine; a
daughter, Amy Stromsten of
Cambridge, Mass.; three
brothers, Gerald Gorman of
Boca Raton, Fla., I. William
Goldberg of Highland Park, Ill.
and Miami Beach, Fla. and Ar-
thur Goldberg of Murrieta Hot
Springs, Calif.; and seven
grandchildren. Interment
Newton.

ANNE SHAPIRO, 80, of

Detroit, died April 12. Surviv-
ed by two daughters, Laura of
New York City and Mrs.
Hyman (Sylvia) Treitman; two
brothers, Henry Sniderman of
Saline, Mich., and William
Sniderman; a sister, Mrs.
Robert (Helen) Garelick of
Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two
grandchildren.

HYMAN L. WAGMAN, 94,
of Ann Arbor, died April 12. He
leaves two sons, Edward of
Chevy Chase, Md., and Donald
of Bethesda, Md.; a daughter,
Mrs. Frederick (Ruth) Wagman
of Ann Arbor; and eight
grandchildren.

FANNIE GOLDMAN WIN-
OKUR, 93, of Detroit, died

April 8. Survived by three
daughters, Mrs. Mary Koretz,
Mrs. Saul (Emma) Shiefman
and Mrs. Moe (Tania) Saslove;
eight grandchildren, six great-
grandchildren and one great-
great-grandson.

EDITH WOLFGANG, 90,
died April 7. She leaves a
daughter, Mrs. Joan Seitner;
four grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.

A native Detroiter, Mr.
Shapiro was a member of
Cong. Beth Achim, its men's
club and chavurah; the
Michigan Pharmaceutical
Association; Centennial
Lodge of B'nai B'rith; Rho
Phi Phi Fraternity and
Jewish Marriage Encounter.
He leaves his wife, Bar-
bara; two sons, Bradley and
Steven; a daughter, Allison; a
brother, Dr. Alvin of Hol-
lywood, Fla.; and a sister,
Mrs. Jordan (Sydelle) Isaacs.

the Deborah Chapter of
Hadassah, died April 9 at age
72.
Born in Detroit, Mrs. Levin
also was a member of Cong.
Beth Achim and its sister-
hood and a former officer;
and she was involved in ac-
tivities for Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity and the National Council
of Jewish Women. Mrs. Levin
also was a volunteer at
William Beaumont Hospital.
She leaves a son, Dr. Mark;
a daughter, Mrs. Neal (Mari-
lyn) Schechter; a brother,
Leonard Baruch; and four
grandchildren.

Primo Levi

Rome — Primo Levi, an
Italian Jewish author who
wrote three books based on
his Holocaust experiences,
died April 11 at age 68.
Born to a middle-class
Jewish family in Turin and
trained as a chemist, Mr.
Levi was deported to Au-
schwitz in 1943. He said he
was spared because he was a
technician and the Nazis
needed him.
His experiences were
documented in If This Be a
Man, The Truce and The

Harvey Shapiro

Submerged and the Saved.

Harvey M. Shapiro, a
pharmacist, died April 13 at
age 55.
