The Holocaust Memorial

spring series with a two-part
screening of Eberhard Fech-
ner's five-hour documentary,
Der Prozess (The Trial) with
English sub-titles.
Parts I and II of Der Pro-
zess will be shown on Wed-
nesday at 6 p.m. in the
Studio Theater of the main
Jewish Community Center.
Part III will be screened on
Thursday at 6 p.m. in -

Poet, writer, actor, director,
Fechner was born in Poland,
but grew up in Berlin, becom-
ing an actor following World
War II which he experienced
'as a prisoner of war.
He produced his first TV-
feature in 1967 and has de-
veloped a portrait of German
society from 1900 to 1975
through a series of award-
winning documentaries.
Fechner has a lengthy list of
film credits.
Der Prozess took five years
to make, just as long as the
Majdanek trial it documents.
The Dusseldorf proceedings
dealt with five prison guards
implicated in the mass mur-
der of 250,000 people inter-
ned in Lubin-Majdanek, Po-
land.
The evening will conclude
with a panel discussion
featuring Rabbi Charles
Rosenzveig, founder and
executive vice president of
the Holocaust Memorial Cen-
ter; Dr. Guy Stern, Wayne
State University; Prof. Peter
Behrens, University of Ham-
burg, Germany; Prof. Geof-
frey Eley, University of
Michigan; and Dr. Ronald
Holloway, Berlin-based jour-
nalist and film-historian.
The film and accompanying
panel discussion are pre-
sented in cooperation with
the Goethe Institute, Ann
Arbor.
The series is offered as a
service to the community.
