Detroit Technion Chapter Starts Research Fund The Detroit Chapter, American Thchnion Society, has begun a million-dollar project to finance applied research pro- jects at the Technion-Israel In- stitute of Technology. The project, the STAR (Sup- port Technion Applied Research) Society, is aimed at helping to create new products for export that will produce new industries and new jobs in Israel. Dr. David Jacknow heads the society, whose members con- tribute $25,000 or more to the Applied Research Fund for the Technion. In addition to recognition with a plaque on the Technion campus, members will have the opportunity to have input into the research projects. An an- nual meeting will be held to hear status reports on the projects. Schubot, Metro Detroit Israel Bonds general chairman, and Norman Allan were delegates to the recent Israel Bonds Leadership Con- ference in Jerusalem. Detroiter David Hermelin is international chairman. It was announced at the con- ference that the 1987 Israel Bond campaign had passed the $150 million cash figure for this year, representing an increase of $33 million in Israel Bond sales over the same period last year.
