Adat Shalom Hires
Second Rabbi

Staff Report

Adat Shalom Synagogue
will add a second rabbi to its
staff in August. "We've
grown in size," explained
Alan Yost, the synagogue's
executive director. "To effec-
tively meet the needs of the
congregation, it's necessary to
bring somebody on."
Elliot Pachter, a rabbinical
student at the Jewish
Theological Seminary (JTS)
and a native of Grand
Rapids, will be tapped to join
Rabbi Efry G. Spectre in
serving the conservative con-
gregation of 1150 families.
Pachter is married to the
former Naomi Weckstein of
Southfield.
Yost said Pachter's title
will be "rabbi," indicating
that no official hierarchy will
exist at the synagogue. "We
have not fully outlined his
job description," Yost contin-
ued, "but it will include full
pulpit responsibilities and
some emphasis with working
with youth, chavurah and
families.
Pachter will be ordained by
the JTS in May, Yost said.
