Tea To Benefit
Yeshivah Gedolah

A tea to benefit the
Yeshivah Gedolah of Greater
Detroit will take place June
14 in the Bloomfield Hills
home of Mrs. Gerald Borsand.
The tea is sponsored by
YIGDAL, the women's auxil-
iary of the Yeshivah Gedolah.
The presidium of YIGDAL
includes Sharon Cohen and
Raizy Nusbaum.
The Yeshivah serves stu-
dents in ninth through 12th
grades, and classes are also
in progress for those in the
advanced rabbinical subjects.
The Yeshivah Gedolah also
has a dormitory for out-of-
town students.
Chairmen for the tea are
Shoshanna Gold and Hilda
Cohen. Proceeds from the tea
will help support the
Yeshivah Gedolah. For reser-

Several University of
Michigan students built a
Soviet gulag jail cell on the
Diag, the center and major
student hangout on campus,
to dramatize the plight of
Soviet Jews.
The Soviet jail cell will be
up for about two weeks, dur-
ing which student activists
will pass out literature de-
tailing the oppression of
Soviet Jewry and what can
be done about it. The stu-
dents will also dress up as
Jewish prisoners of con-
science and sleep in the jail
cell at night. In addition, the
names of Jewish refuseniks
will be read off. A homemade
mannequin resembling an
imprisoned Soviet Jew will
remain in the jail cell for the
two-week duration of the jail
cell.
The students are members
of two student organizations
on the U-M campus, Tagar
and Union of Students for Is-
rael (USI). Tagar is a na-
tional college-based youth
group of Jewish nationalists,
and it is affiliated with the
Herut political party in Is-
rael. USI is an organization
of students allied in support
of the State of Israel.
The jail cell was the idea of
Keith Hope, founder/
chairman of U of M Tagar,
and a U-M freshman.
Debbie Schlussel, a U of M
freshman active in Tagar and
USI, is the National Jewish'
Coalition representative on
campus.
