Contemporary Jewish Com-
munity in Israel," part of the
"Israel: Idealism-Realism"
series, 2 p.m. Sunday, at the
Jewish Community Center in
West Bloomfield.
Bar-Tura is shaliach to the
Union of American Hebrew
Congregations. She was born
and raised as a Conservative
Jew in the United States.
After making aliyah in 1971,
she did graduate work at the
Technion in Haifa and a year
later moved to Kibbutz Hulda
and became a member. She
served as liaison for the kib-
butz movement with the
army in matters concerning
youth settlement groups,
their educational curriculum,
personal adjustment problems
and leadership training.
In addition, she has, for the
last ten years, worked as an
editor and translator of edu-
cational materials and mod-
ern Hebrew literature includ-
ing Amos Oz's In the Land of
Israel.

"Planning the Negev Region
of the Future," 8 p.m. Wed-
nesday, at the Jewish Com-
munity Center's Jimmy Pre-
ntis Morris Branch in Oak
Park.
Kahana is the Negev
Region's former director of
planning and the former
coordinator of the Central
Region's comprehensive
planning team. Currently, he
is a Ph.D. candidate in the
University of Michigan's de-
partment of urban technolog-
ical environmental planning.
