Shaarey Zedek Sis- terhood invites the commu- nity to hear Aliza Shevrin at its spring luncheon on April 6 at 11 a.m. in the Morris Adler Hall of the synagogue. Shevrin is an internation- ally published translator of Yiddish literature. She has translated many of the works of Isaac Singer and Sholem Aleichem, and has lectured to numerous groups. A recent recipient of a Rockefeller Foundation Fel- lowship, Shevrin will spend a month in Italy to work on the not-yet-published translation of a Sholem Aleichem novel. A resident of Ann Arbor, Shevrin has taught Yiddish classes at the Hillel Founda- tion and has presented a series of lectures at the Mid- rasha College of Jewish Studies in Detroit. The spring program will The National Council of Jewish Women, Greater De- troit Section, will sponsor a fitness day for its members, beginning 9 a.m. April 8, at the Jewish Community Cen- ter Health Club in West Bloomfield. The event will feature guest speakers Sylvia Zukin, health club director, and Dr. David Hawtof, plastic sur- geon. Zukin will present a look at the club's features and comment on fitness.
