round, says Doris Pressman,
sales representative for Gran
Cruises. Because of seaborn
winds, rain is a possibility, so
bring rain gear. The amount of
clothes you bring depends on
the length of your cruise. "But
don't take too many clothes.
The cabins don't have enough
room," cautions Pressman.
For days on board the ship,
a bathing suit and cover-up are
all you need. At port at one of
the islands, a simple cotton
dress, slacks or shorts, and a
top are fine. You may want to
wear a hat for protection from
the sun. Many of the islands
have beautiful beaches, so
don't forget to pack a bathing
suit and towel into a day bag
before leaving the ship. San-
dals are the footwear of choice
for the beaches or the streets.
Cruise ships often have
theme nights. Some popular
themes are a masquerade ball,
western night or pirate night.
You could find out in advance
what theme nights your ship
will have, and bring your
favorite get-ups. Each evening
you will receive a list of the
following day's events, which
will also state required attire.
The ship will usually provide
everything you need for a
costume, from masks and
clothes to wigs and hats; crew
members will help you figure
out a costume if you're
stumped.
Other nights, such as cap-
tain's night when you go to a
casino or out to dinner on an
island, you need more formal
attire. You should bring two
dressy outfits for a seven-day
cruise and four for a ten-day
cruise, Pressman figures. On
these nights, men should wear
a suit or sports coat, dress
shirt and a tie. Usually, women
do not wear full-length gowns,
but cocktail-length beaded
dresses are favorites.
