rir his spring, almost
anything goes for kids
and pre-teens. Ingenuity
and personal style are at
the heart of the season's key
looks: layered, faded, oversized,
fun and comfortable. For kids the
look is Beach Boys, Annie Oakley
and Flintstone fun. For the pre-
teen crowd, it's not only what
you wear, but how you wear it.
Back from last spring and
summer is the Beach Boy surfer
look— short hair with wind swept
bangs, wet from the surf,
oversized T-shirt and wild
Hawaiian print shorts. Last year,
those Hawaiian print shorts made
their come-back, renamed,
"jams."
"This season, jams are

the knee, and "clamdiggers,"
between knee and ankle.
The shorts are colorful, wild
prints. "Last year, almost all of the
jams were a floral print," said
Shindler. "This year, flowers are

jams have abstract patterns."
Shindler and his employees refer
to the eye catching prints as
"jungle," "geometric," and
"overboard," (the last one
refering to the brand name
"overboard" written on the
shorts.) So far, according to
Shindler, the kneebuster length
seems to be the hottest seller.
This year's newest look is a jam
worn with its matching T-shirt, an
inexpensive, oversized, white
cotton T-shirt made with the jam's
pattern on the front. Shindler
cautions against mixing and
matching the different jam prints
and jam T-shirts. "Either wear the
shirt with its matching short or buy
solid colored T-shirts to mix with
different shorts."
Still popular are "camp shirts,"
squared off, button down,
Hawaiian print shirts, worn open
as a layered look with a tight
