regardless of age, can dress to
look good.
Experts agree that there are no
special tips to dressing if you're a
large size. If the style is short, no
one's going to say you can't wear
short because your legs are too
heavy. If a woman looks good in
red, she should wear the color.
And pleated skirts are for
everyone. Anything goes as long
as it fits well and you're
comfortable about how you look.

PETITES MAKING DEMANDS
Petite clothing is for the woman
under 5 feet 4. She may be
structured small and take a petite
size 2 or 4, or she may be of
average built and fit well in petite
size 8, 10 or 12. Whatever her
size, the manufacturer has to
proportion the clothes. Again, it's
not a matter of simply cutting
down a larger size garment to fit.
"Petite women can wear
almost everything that's in style.
But they can't carry off some of
the looks without the clothing
being scaled down," explained
Sam Rodd, owner of Tres Chic
Petites (Sugar Tree Mall,
Orchard Lake Rd., West
Bloomfield).
Rodd explained that petite
women shouldn't wear stiff
fabrics that stand away from their
body because they hide the body.
He believes that petite women
look best in soft, fluid fabrics,
such as jerseys, cottons, fine
wools and silks that shape the
body.
"But petite women can wear
longer skirts and short jackets or
longer jackets with shorter skirts
whatever the style," Rodd
said. "The look depends on the
fabric as well as the style. It just
can't be too big and
overwhelming or it tends to look
stubby on the petite woman."
Tres Chic Petites, like other
stores and departments
specializing in petites, carries the
gamut of clothes: sportswear,
career clothes, dinner/cocktail
clothes, and clothes for the
mother-of-the-bride. Designers
