are also popular. Ray & Ida
carries a strapless white leather
dress and an electric blue suede
dress. Ray Epstein has already
reordered white leather skirts to
meet the demand this season.
At Bally in the Somerset Mall,
there's an elegant napa jacket
with a manadarin collar and
detailed embroidered suede
panel.
Spring and winter fabrics are
blended in lightweight wool and
cashmere. "It's almost
seasonless," adds Hall.
For evening, designers stress
tulle, chiffon, organza and lace for
the romantic look. At Naomi's in
the Boardwalk, there were many
spectacular dressy clothes with
these fabrics.

COLOR
The classic colors white, ivory
and black are always strong. An
emerging color is brown in a
chocolate or luggage shade.
Khaki is also popular and neutral.
At the Hino and Malee fashion
show at Roz & Sherm, olive
green, acid green and emerald
green were available in many
styles.
Designer Donna Karan "thinks
pink this season." She shows a
pink silk blazer with a matching
undershirt and pajama pant.
"We start off in spring with pale
grey knit dressing," says
designer Marilyn Brooks, with a
store in West Bloomfield. Brooks
also has many outfits in desert
colors of sand, clay, turquoise
and khaki.
Brights and tropical colors
always say summer. Liz
Claiborne has a high voltage
orange in her collection.
The traditional navy is also
strong because of the ever
popular stripes. Part of the new
ready-to-wear collection at
Pamela Swift in West Bloomfield
is a subtle nautical theme. Navy
pleated trousers with matching
blazers and suits convey a
sophisticated look.

PRINTS
Stripes are definitely in. From
Calvin Klein to Liz Claiborne,
from pinstripes to awning stripes,
and from jersey to silk, stripes are
stylish.
Animal motifs are in vogue,
also. At Naomi's there's a
metallic, faux alligator raincoat.
Dots in all sizes are again
popular.
Floral prints from large
splashing flowers to mille fleurs
are seen in many collections.
DRESSES
Dresses are shorter and fuller.
One look is short and full with
crinolines and petticoats. Another
look is long and fluid. The
princess fit 'n flare silhouette is
still popular. In the Hino and
Malee collection at Roz & Sherm,
there's a stunning red princess
dress. Overall, it's a feminine
form.

SKIRTS
Skirts mimic the dresses in
both styles. It's either short and
sassy or long and fluid. Hersh
Rotenberg, of Hersh's in West
Bloomfield with fashions for men
and women, gives this

Pearl grey print jewel-neck blouse,
$160; pearl grey soft skirt with un-
pressed stitched pleats, $240; grey
leather belt with silver medallions,
$100, from Laurel.
