Teen To Twin
His Bar Mitzvah
On Shabbat morning at 9
a.m., Lawrence Markle will
twin the observance of his
bar mitzvah at Adat Shalom
Synagogue with Mikhail
Yarzhembovsky, the son of
Albina and Stanislav Yar-
zhembovsky of Leningrad,
USSR.
Stanislav was formerly
employed by the Oceanog-
raphic Research Institute of
the USSR Academy of Sci-
ences in Leningrad, where he
worked as a researcher,
studying the composition and
circulation features of oceanic
water. As an oceanologist,
Yarzhembovsky worked with
maps; in the USSR, most
topographic maps, even com-
mon ones, are considered
secret.
When he applied to emi-
grate to Israel, he had to quit
the Oceanographic Research
Institute and get a low-
paying job that does not
correspond to his qualifica-
tions. His wife had to stop
work to take care of their son
who had been ill.
Larry has written several
times to Mikhail and he will
attempt to contact the family
by telephone.
Students To Hear
District Judge
Judge Stephen C. Cooper of
the 46th District Court will
meet with bar and bat
mitzvah-age students at the
Troy branch of the United
Hebrew Schools on Sunday.
On March 29, he will meet
with middle school students
at Temple Israel.
He will discuss the stu-
dents' roles as members of
the Detroit Jewish commu-
nity.
