Rachel Traurig, a fifth-
grade student at Akiva He-
brew Day School, was the
grand prize winner in the
Akiva annual science fair,
held March 2-6 at the school.
The daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Traurig of Oak
Park, Rachel won for her
project on molds.
Each project in the fair was
examined by a panel of
judges consisting of: Brenda
De Bose, Jeff Falkington and
Marylyn Martin of Wayne
State University; Jane
Appleman of Cranbrook
Schools, Emery Erdelyi of
Speedring Corp., and Jon
Robert Troll of Roseville
Brablec High School.

dinated by Akiva faculty
members Norbert Vance and
Claire Bronson.
Student Wins
Top Math Honors
Craig Freedman, son of
Robert and David Freedman,
has received the first place
Gold Award in the 30th an-
nual Michigan Mathematics
Prize Competition. He re-
ceived the highest score of
the 23,000 high school stu-
dents who entered this
competition. Craig also was
named the Unisys Corp.
Scholar.
A 1984 graduate of Hillel
Day School, Craig is cur-
rently a senior at Southfield
High School. He will attend
the University of Michigan
College of Engineering in
September.
Holocaust Meeting
Marks Anniversary
This year marks the tenth
anniversary of the joint
Jewish Community Council-
Greater Detroit Interfaith
Round Table Youth Sym-
posium on the Holocaust. The
symposium is conducted in
cooperation with the
Holocaust Memorial Center
and the Jewish Community
Center.
On April 1, more than 150
high school students and
their teachers will gather at
the HMC to view a film
featuring noted actor Robert
Clary, a survivor of Buchen-
wald concentration camp.
Following the film, partici-
pants will meet with local
survivors and tour the HMC.
Dr. John Mames of the Coun-
cil's Holocaust subcommittee
will coordinate the meetings
with survivors.
The symposium will be
preceded by classroom pre-
sentations conducted by
teachers using educational
