Agronsky To Address
Testimonial For Cohan

Israel Histadrut of Met-
ropolitan Detroit will pay
tribute to Leon S. Cohan,
president of the Jewish
Community Council, at a tes-
timonial dinner, rescheduled
for 6 p.m. April 2, at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek. The event
was rescheduled this winter
after the death of Cohan's
mother.
The guest speaker will be
Martin Agronsky, veteran
journalist and TV commen-
tator.
Cohan, who graduated from
the Wayne State University
Law School, practiced law in
Detroit until his appointment
as an assistant attorney gen-
eral of the State of Michigan.
Promoted to deputy attorney
general, Cohan held that
position longer than anyone
in Michigan's history.
Cohan returned to Detroit
in 1973 when he accepted the
position of vice president and
general counsel of Detroit
Edison Co. He is the
president of the Jewish
Community Council.
Featured on the program
will be Philip Marcus Esser
and Barbara Bredius. Pro-
ceeds from the Leon S. Cohan
Testimonial Dinner will be
used to build the Maurice
and Lillian Cohan Au-
ditorium at Amal Vocational
Regional High School in
Safed, Israel, in memory of
Mr. Cohan's parents.

Israel Conference Day
Slated in Ann Arbor

The third annual Israel
Conference Day will take
place at the University of
Michigan's Ann Arbor cam-
pus on March 29 in the Rac-
kham School of Graduate
Studies.
The conference, which is
an academic program featur-
ing lectures, films, and panel
discussions, will run con- .
tinuously from 11 a.m. to
7:30 p.m. Visitors may come
at any time during the day.
There is no charge for the
conference. Child care will be
available at a nominal fee.

Among the key figures on
this year's program is the Is-
raeli Ambassador to the
United Nations, Benjamin
Netanyahu, who will deliver
the keynote address.

The conference will open
with a talk by Dr. Moshe
Maoz, professor of Middle
Eastern studies at Hebrew

University, and currently vis-
iting scholar at Harvard. He
is a former advisor to Prime
Minister Shimon Peres, and
an expert on Arab-Israeli af-
fairs.

The
other
speakers
scheduled to speak this year
are: Ilai Alon, professor of Is-
lamic philosophy and theol-
ogy at Tel Aviv University,
currently at Princeton; U-M
Prof. Carl Cohen; Prof.
Shoshana Weitz, head of the
educational theatre program
at Tel Aviv University, and
theatre critic`columnist; Cal-
vin Goldscheider, professor of
Judaic studies and sociology
at Brown University; David
Harel, computer scientist at
the Weizmann Institute and
visiting professor at
Carnegie-Mellon University;
and Jacqueline Zeff, dean of
the division of arts and sci-
ences at Mercy College in De-
troit.
