Detroiters Define
Erev Shabbat
Two Detroiters have com-
bined their skills to define
preparations for the Sabbath
in a charming tale entitled
The Mentchkins Make Shab-
bos (Phillip Feldheim Pu-
blishers).
It is the step-by-step
routine of making the Erev
Shabbat activities a time for
getting ready for the day of
rest that makes the tale in-
teresting. Perhaps also be-
cause it is in verse that it
will attract the very young
reader and will encourage
parents to read the story to
them.
Chaya Leah Rothstein
wrote the 20-page set of ver-
ses in this pa.perbacked chil-
dren's narrative. Ruth Pe-
rlstein did the illustrating.
Their Detroit fellow citizens
will be delighted by their
joint effort in making the
Sabbath a day to be
sanctified and to rejoice in it.

Publishers Boost
Interest In Books
For Young Readers
FINE BATH, KITCHEN, AND DOOR HARDWARE
Educators in search of
material to encourage chil-
dren's desire to learn to
create an interest in their
subject matter will benefit
immensely from currently-
published material. They will
learn a great deal from
newspapers and especially
from history books and the
continuing holiday material
on the Jewish calendar.
Publishers have taken a
deep interest in children's
books, and Jewish subject
matter has attained a high
level of importance. This is
an aspect in book publishing
on a creatively high level
with a deep mark of
entertainment and learning
values. They merit being
treated both as the factual
that reach a high level of
knowledgeability as well as
recreational and amusing.
Of immediate interest, with
Passover soon in the
limelight, is the Haggadah.
Jonathan David Publishers
are on the record producing
vastly informative and defini-
tive work, and the topics are
multiple. This publishing
house is the first to have
commenced Haggadah creat-
ing, and it is filled with
charm and artistic values.
The Animated Haggadah is
traditional in text and the
contents are the unchange-
able. The current and intro-
ductory has a subtitle, "A
Text for Children," and is
enthusiastically creative. The
Haggadah in this text beauti-
fully recreates the story
